Villa A by Najjar & Najjar Architects

Beautiful home that has some green design features with a view.

Linz is the third largest city in Austria and the capital city of the state Upper Austria.  Nestled into the side of a hill in the mountains above the city rests the home titled Villa A. The home, designed by firm Najjar & Najjar, integrates well with it's surrounding.

Street facing facade.

A foot bridge crosses a reflection pond to the entry.

The entry is covered with an expansive overhang which has perforations in it to allow natural daylighting. At night, recessed lamps in the floor illuminate the space and cast light scallops on the wall.

The home has incredible views of the Linz below.

On the southern exposure, the architects made use deep overhangs to shield the interior from the summer  sun. During the winter, when the angle of the sun changes, light penetrates deeper into the building allowing the home to take advantage of solar heat gain.

A Miesian chair fits appropriately in this space.

The distinction between interior and exterior is not finite.

This centrally located vertical circulation space has vented skylights allowing for cross-ventilation. By opening the skylight above and the sliding doors on the lower level hot air rises out of the building pulling in fresh cool air below.

The lines of the roof respond to the contour of site.
